I am a 65 yr old Nam vet. I started receiving a check for my disability last year. A few months ago, I received a letter from the VA that said I might be able to get some discounts on things from the state. Well, yesterday I went to the TPWD to renew my fishing/hunting license. I took the letter with me. Long story short, I got a super combo for free. Now is that taking care of our veterans or what? Posting this in case other vets do not know about it.

Thank you. The guys coming back from Nam were not treated like our guys are now. Sure glad to see how things have changed toward our vets.

At 65 you would have got a senior discount, but unless you are over 50% disabled due to service connected, you should not have got a free one. I'm 64 and 40% disabled due to service connected and got squat. If you are over 50% disabled you earned whatever you get. Thank you for your service. flag

bassfork, as the son of a Vietnam veteran, thank you for your service. The things many of you experienced, and the way our nation treated many of you upon your return home, a free fishing license seems like and awfully small and trivial token of thanks!

As you stated, it makes me proud to see our nation has learned from the mistakes made by your generation. We now do a much better job of separating the sacrifice and service of our men and women in uniform from our political views.

It has always been my private conviction that any man who pits his intelligence against a fish and loses has it coming. -John Steinbeck

My dad is a Vietnam veteran. I can only hope that you spend as many days on the water fishing as you did serving our country. KingwoodCat, thanks for your time served as well!

60%.

The free Resident Disabled Veteran "Super Combo" Hunting and All-Water Fishing Package is available at no cost to Texas residents qualifying as a disabled veteran. Disabled Veteran means a veteran with a service-connected disability, as defined by the Veterans Administration, consisting of the loss of the use of a foot or leg, or a disability rating of 60% or more and who is receiving compensation from the U.S. for the disability. Official proof of disability (issued by the VA) must be shown when applying for this license and must state the rate of disability.
