While drift fishing just east of the gravel pits today I came to rest on top of a tree in 30' of water. Parts of the tree are only 4-6" under water. Be careful folks.

You wouldn't happen to have a screenshot or coordinates of that location you could PM me by chance? I am still learning Lewisville and going really slow everywhere south of the flooded timber area near Little Elm. Seems like every time I think about putting the throttle down, I see another stump. Just wonder how close I have been to it.

Thanks,

Mike

Definitely a lot of trees and stumps popping up out of nowhere that I haven't seen before. I've buzzed by several in "open water" that I missed by only a couple feet that are only about a foot under water as well. Be careful out there right now.

Mike, I marked it on my GPS but to be honest I think it's best to just go slow thru all the standing timber areas. There used to be map that showed where the standing timber was. I believe I saw it posted on TFF but that was some time ago.

LOL. For those who didn't fish Lewisville back in the 70's, you really have no idea how big the "forest" is out in the open lake. Back in the day, you had to almost skirt around it, no way you were going to run thru it routinely without tearing something up. Of course, when the lake is normal level, they are really no big deal anymore since they have fallen down. But, when the lake starts to get a little low, you will see a lot of trees, and some big ones too. I'm always amazed when I see boats run due east from Twin Poles as well as east or northeast from the big main lake point, think everyone calls it Tall tree. Anyway, be careful out there till the lake comes back up.

I'm always amazed as well to see people run through there at W.O.T., your 100% correct, it is a forest out there...careful, careful, careful.

You best idle around out there north and east of the gravel pits anytime the lake gets more than 5' low. Not as many stumps as in the 70's & 80's, but the ones that are still there can definitely ruin your day.

Please excuse my dumb question... but I just want to be sure. If I am coming out from the cut from Pier 121 into the main lake, what is the safest route to the southern tip of the flooded timber before Little Elm? I have been making a somewhat counter-clockwise route in the mornings starting at Pier 121, heading north to timber, then west towards the Old Dam/ Lake Dallas area before heading back south. I feel like I have been running right through this danger zone the last couple weekends and really don't want to mess up my rig... or die. I've worked too hard on it to hit a stump at WOT. It looks like "north and east of the gravel pits" is where my blue dotted trail has paved a path for me in planning trips. I use the Navionics maps with GPS at the helm to guide, but plan my route using their app sometimes. Long post, but short answer would be... is it better to go west along the main dam, then head due north (east of Twin Poles) and then go over to Little Elm/ 720 via inside Deadman's, or is there a path along the east? I have "hugged the shoreline" up to the split to Hidden Cove and then gone west to get there as well. Sorry for so many questions.

Be careful hugging the shoreline ANYWHERE north of the 121 cut, several trees/stumps are emerging now a few hundred feet from the (current) shoreline, as well as foundations and other manmade structures that I don't even see marked on Navionics or my "Hot Maps" paper map. At work so don't have waypoints, but I've just gotten new downscan, so will begin having fun finding the "underwater treasures now", and anything solo (not in the middle of a forest(you are on your own once you get in it)) I'll post up if I find. (I live near the 121 cut, so that's the easiest area for me to get to, it's getting a bit scary out there!)

See if this helps. Definitely not the only trees, but, a very good indication of where the "Lumber Yard" is.

Added some of these last weekend. Only takes a few minutes out of your fishing time. Found that a 3 inch deck screw and a washer tied to a jug with about 6 ft or trot line string was the easiest. Just pull up to stump and drive screw into stump.

Yep back in the day you didn't fly thru the middle of the lake at all you either knew the lake or you found trees in the middle, several accidents from newbies coming from Dallas.....HAY IF YOU SEE BIG TREE MARK IT FOR ME PLEASE IT'S THE BEST STRIPPER SPOT IN THE LAKE.
