How does the moon cycle effect fishing? Better fishing on a full moon or how does that work?

Just google it. There is a ton of information available on the web. Do searches on "Solunar Tables" and "Moon Phases and Their Effects on Fishing." Way too invloved for a short answer.

A full moon has never been good for me. Could be other variables involved but I don't like a full moon for daytime fishing.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

Back in my younger days read books about Doug Hannon(??) he claimed he caught most of his trophy bass 3 days before and 3 days after a full moon. Being I kept Log books for a few years was able one boring cold winter day to go back through calendars and my log book and it was so SPOT On! All of my biggest bass were caught right in that scenario. I at that time fished Fayette over 200 days per year. But my biggest lunkers were caught exactly on those days. But as of today I still dont let that decide when I go fish. Dry hooks seem to get dusty and rusty!!

I've never followed the moon phases much but a friend of mine used to guide on Toledo and says he caught his best fish when you could see the moon during the daylight hours. Don't know?

To whom much is given, much is required.

Yes I believe in moon phase .. Just as hunters do . I caught my biggest bass last march at night during a worm moon around 12:30 am .. And I also believe the daylight hours after a full moon are less productive .
Low pressure / barometric pressure make a difference, why wouldn't the moon phase also . Think about it . But like the other fellow fisherman said google it And you'll find alot of good info with different opinions . Good luck

He was this big........... No seriously !!!

I've been researching this lately and the moon phase fishing tips aren't always, if ever, with regards to the full moon or night time. Most of what I've read is regarding the temps and moon waxing and waning, etc. The problem is that one site shows a current "best time" at period "a" in the day, and the next one has their period "a" starting 1 hour and 45 minutes later. I don't know where to start!

Addendum: I do believe in the moon phases, however, I don't know how to use them yet.

I use the fishing forecast at weather.com for moon phase information and find it pretty helpful.

1) Go to weather.com
2) Enter a lake name or town closest to the lake to get the weather forecast.
3) Click the Fishing link on the left side of the page and it will plot the fishing forecast based on moon phase. You can advance it several days. Sorry it won't work on Iphone or Ipad - I think you need FLASH to see it.

I enjoy looking at this and then comparing it to my luck on the water.

Enjoy!
