I went back to work in 6 weeks.. However I did not fish for 8 weeks.
Everyone is right, listen to your doc. Not every surgery is the same. Some repairs could have been more difficult or more extensive. Your doctor will know for sure.

I had c6 c7 fusion 20 years ago. I was off work as a mechanic for 6 weeks. I was fishing on calm days in my ranger in 3 weeks. The only problem I had was backing the trailer in a neck brace with a very stiff neck. I was very carefull and drove that boat about 10 mph but being off work ever day I had to due something. Good luck

The shocks of wave action might harm your neck.

I would definitely ask my doctor if I could go on a boat before taking the chance.

I have had back and neck surgeries. I went back to work six weeks after the first back surgery when my doctor advised me to wait six months.

I told him I could not afford to miss that much work. Nine months later I was back in the hospital, having the surgery done again.

So the best advice is to discuss issues with your doctor and follow his advice. I was hardheaded and learnt this the hard way.

I had cervical neck fusion c-4 c-5 c-6 and like most mentioned I would not even attempt to get in a boat .I think I went fishing at 6-9 weeks and even then the pounding of the wake/boat made for a rough few days after going out.
My dr told me I would be fine after 6 months.fully recoverd.I say it took me a full year before I was able to do something with out having pain later.6 years later I feel pretty good except for sometimes having a stiff neck.I didn't lose to much of side to side head turning what I did lose was looking up and down.if I look up for awhile(like watching the 4th of july fireworks display the year I had the surgery I paid for it the week after..Be careful. The fish are not going anywere

I was out of work for 18 days and didn't fish for about 6 weeks. Mine was two years ago. The only movement I lost is looking up. One plate and six screws.

Why only 18 days? It been 10 days for me and my neck still hurt alot! Lucky for me, my company cover for me up to 6 months. Doctor said I can go back to work in 3 months!

( just wonder because you have to wear neck brace for 4-6 weeks and can't drive in that time)

Don't go back to fishing until you are cleared to go back to work. I can see it now...

"Yeah boss, Doc said I couldn't do anything for three months and then I could go back to work. I figured I might as well fish while I'm off, but got into some rough water and tweaked my neck. Looks like I'll be off for an additional 3-6 months."
