I was at Ivie a couple weeks ago and didn't catch one fish. It could very well be the lack of experience, but sounds like everyone else didnt do so hot either. Going again this weekend and any tips would be greatly appreciated. Don't have to be any honey holes or major fish places. I just want to catch a few fish this time. Dinks are fine with me.

I was there this last weekend on the Concho side, she fished pretty tough. Only thing I could get bit on was jigs in green pumpkin/brown colors. You ought to be able to catch dinks up on the bank, look for lay downs and root systems. If you want bigger fish try 15 to 20 fow on points and humps, or look for shallow water close to deep water. I lost a big girl on a jig off a point, felt her turn after I set the hook and she was gone, got to see her jump about 30 seconds later with my jig in her mouth. The heat was brutal with no breeze, jumped in several times to cool off, water temps were from 88 to 92.

Thanks for the help Tree_Fish. I will definitely try a jig although I dont know alot about fishing jigs and plastics. When you say the Concho side, does that mean I need to go to the rivers? I have never been up that far, which could be why I didnt catch anything last time.

Yes when I say Concho side I mean the river, from time to time I like going over there because there's a lot less pressure over there than on the main lake. Just look for the channel cuts with some rock on em and fish that FB jig as slow as you can stand to do it. I fished a crankbait for a good amount of time and couldn't get anything on a reaction bite. I was there 4 days and saw 2 other fishermen. It's a different style of fishing over there and you can get skunked just as easily as on the main lake. All but 1 of my big fish at ivie have come off the main lake, there are fish there they are just hard to pattern sometimes. Ivie will humble you real quick, I've had a few trips out there where I zeroed and it seems like it just keeps getting tougher. A heads up if you do go to the Concho side as you leave the ramp and hit the tree line you wanna juke to the left, you can see the top of a small tree and a larger tree just beyond that, go through there til you hit the channel. If you go straight through the apparent path there is a hump there that comes up to 2 fow. If you follow the path I described you'll be in 12+.I'll see if I can get the graph booted up and get you a map of what I'm talking about. Good luck and be careful out there, the lakes very low just watch your gps and stay in the channel. If there's anything else I can help ya out with just shoot me a pm smile

The shad population is big, just like last year they had a large spawn. Fishing is not real great, your fishing for one or two bites a day but if you hang one its usually going to be a good one.

That's what keeps me going back lol. Just when I start getting really frustrated and cussing the lake I hang a big one and fall in love again smile

I know what you mean Tree, I had a 13.12 July 21, five days later I had a 12.29. It was tough inbtween those fish being caught and it's been tough ever since. I'm on the lake everyday and its tougher and tougher everyday.

Do you mind sharing how deep those two pigs were when you caught them? Thanks.
