Nice fish. Lots of good fish to be had in August and September at the end of the jetties. Even the Bonita are fun to play with every now and then and they are great bait!

Here is a teaser photo for you guys heading down there. This was this past Saturday. The wind was calm (for the beach at least), water warm and blue and 1' to 2' waves out to the second sand bar. Awesome yaking conditions!!! (Didn't get the right pic, but there were 4 rigs in sight of where I took this picture.)

I just did a day trip for my 12 year old. He absolutely loves the beach!!! So no yak for me that trip. frown But I did bring a bass rod and a box of frozen shrimp. Nothing big, but catching a bunch of these guys in the first cut was a lot of fun. I call them "tourist red fish"...lol

Those whiting are good eating. I know they look ugly but taste great! Those photos make me anxious, as if I wasn't anxious enough already. Thanks for posting

You are absolutley correct! Those whiting for many fishermen are considered "trash" fish. I was litterally standing in maybe 6 inches of water casting to the first cut just before the first sand bar. I was catching these guys on almost every cast. Suited with the right rod, these suckers can be a blast to catch! Some of the bigger ones were pulling drag when I was trying to get them in. And as to eating...my dad is not a fan of fishing. But he loves to eat fresh fish! In high school (before I could drive) he would take me to the beach just so I could catch him a mess of whitings. Those fish are some fine eating...that's for sure!! smile

Read the other posts and you will find your answer. There is even a shower house right by the camp ground and you will be close to the jetties

Camp on the beach. rolfmao

I think I may go down for Labor Day. Head down Thursday night... fish Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and if I don't get sick of catching fish - a Monday morning run before I head back.

Will definitely have to check out the jetties...

good info here gents cheers

Whiting chef float / balloon rig or something that runs shallow is good to
pull around there. Free line or troll the color line wink Bull reds and kings are a plenty. Watch for bird action.
Usually Lots of bait at the ends of the jetty. Match what is there in color and size and slow it down if ur casting even the kings do seem to want it slow. Rocks will eat your lures and hooks if u let them sink near bottom. So, KEEP A KNIFE HANDY AT ALL TIMES!!!!
