I'm interested in wadeing the Dike also. I've seen a few people wading near the entrance off to the left and also at the end. That's about all I know.

Most people wade right at the entrance I normally head down a ways and wade from the part that looks like a beach they had mulch piled up when I last went. You can catch bait with a castnet but they have live bait at the shops. Live shrimp under a popping cork. Live croaker. I had some luck using a gold weedless casting spoon off the rocks and wading.

i didnt get to wade very long the friend i was with saw a jelly fish and ran for land and i didnt want to keep venturing on by my self.

I fished the dike for years!!!!
It is by far my favorite saltwater location.
Mesquito island is directly to your left side as you come down the dike from the very begining. You may see a little island but if tides are up chances are its under water. You will probably see lots of folks out there already wading. You may also find it by watching the birds. They love to walk on it when its just under the water.
I also waded back by the pier on the left side of it. You can walk down the rocks into the water but be carefull it gets deep and when the HUGE boats come by the whole area can go dry in seconds for houndreds of yards out. Its is in awe inspiring experience but be carefull it can suck you out and the water comes back twice as hard as it left be ready for about a 4 foot rise in water when it comes back. I had to chase tackle around the area for 10 minutes when my tackle that was well away from the water on top of a large rock floated off.
Now all of this info is questionable these days since there has been atleast one hurricane since I have been down there. I think it was katrina that destroyed the dike and closed my favorite fishing spot. Glad people are still fishing it. Man I have cought some hogs out there.
Also if Curl's or Anitas has been rebuilt make sure to stop in and buy bait from those fine folks lord knows they have been through alot. Another tid bit of info I reccomend the burger at the pier its a good burger after a long day or night of fishing.
My favorite time to fish the area is at night under the lights with artificials or popping corks, I tend to fish mainly around the shrimp boat docks from the rocks. Your not allowed onto the docks.
Good luck hope all this info is correct and helpful.
P.S. Do NOT mess with those ugly grey cranes, they are an endangered species or atleast they used to be. I saw a guy get whacked good by a Warden for trying to catch one lol.
