I recently purchased a used boat with a 225 yamaha vmax (2002 model). I dont get the short "beep" from a warning horn when I start it like I used to from my Johnson motor. Is this something I should be hearing or will it just go off if there is low oil or over heating?

It should only go off if theirs a problem. I always like to check the warnings. Heat the temp sender with a bic then check the float warning in the motor mounted tank and the boat mounted main oil tank. You can not be too careful.
