My HB 1197 reads 1.9 feet intermit idly no matter what the depth. It eventually clears-out and reads correcttly. The transducer is on my jackplate. I can see the sonar fine it's just the reading that's wrong and it's always 1.9.

Any ideas?

Mine does it but says 2.9 ' I was told that's the default. Will be curious on the answers. You don't have a transducer inside and out?

To be honest, I don't know -- never checked. My boat was a demo and I never asked. Maybe that could have something to do with it?

My instructions on mine said to make sure the transducer is st least 15 inches from the prop. That's all I can think of.

My partners 1197 does the 2.9 thing quite often, curious for the solution to this also.

Reset the unit. Save your sh*t and clear it out

Friend of mine just had a simular issue. He was having the depth read 1.9 everyonce in a while. It then started happening more often and then eventually would only read 1.9. The transducer was going out. Had it replaced and hasnt had the problem since.

Mine was reading 1.7 but would not read sonar at all. I could unplug at y cable and would work for bout 10 seconds. I changed ducer yesterday and works great

yep transducer, call humminbird. had same problem with a brand new 898hd, read in the thousands of feet though called, sent it back and had a new one within 5 days. great cs from bird.
