Hello all,

I don't know that any of you yak there, but Lake O' the Pines (a big lake in East Texas) has a pretty severe bacteria outbreak going on. This has been an intermittent, yet ongoing problem there for some time. It is apparently back with a vengeance!

I thought I'd mention it here just in case...

I'll see if I can find one. I only know because they have posted warnings about it at our reservoir, which is about 15 minutes from there.

If you could post any more information about this, I would really appreciate it. What reservoir did you see the warnings and what specifically did it say? Due to me living on the lake, and not hearing anything about this lately, you have definitely peaked my interest. The only info that I can find tells of low levels of bacteria, but this was back in April of 2012.

They posted the warning down here at Shadowood at our reservoir in Marshall. I'll look to see what I can find. The main thrust of the message here was about washing boats so it doesn't come here.

If you didn't hear about it and live there, I wonder if it's not at a health-risk level and just our lake reminding people to wash their boat. I'll try to get the source though and post it.

Good to post this kind of stuff. I remember a few years back when Texoma had that blue-green algae outbreak and you couldn't even boat on the lake... they said just the spray from your boat could be inhaled and make people sick. My girlfriend at the time's dad had a boat at Highport that we couldn't take out.

Interested in any info on this. Got an update or link? Pines is our normal haunt, but life has kept us off the water for 4-6 weeks now.

Chuck,

One of the outposts on Pines had a sub-high reading for bacteria. It didn't meet health warning, so there's no link. It got posted at my neighborhood lake, so i posted it here. I later called TWPD, and they said no official warning, but they were aware of the high reading. It got posted at the lake I live at nearby as a precaution for people who dip in both pools. TWPD told me swimming near the outpost wouldn't be a problem (or anywhere else in the lake), but he especially warned that rinsing is important.

So, officially, no worries now, but the readings were elevated in one spot.

Not too surprised.....Lake-O-the-Pines has had a long history of high levels of bacteria especially during the summer.

Thanks for the additional info. Usually there are announcement made through multiple forms of media when Pines has an outbreak.

And, yes, it is not uncommon during the peak heat of summer to experience an outbreak event. Unfortunately the low water levels and also increase the likelihood of issues.
