Anyone else seeing a formation of white crystal like particles forming on jackplate or TM? It looks like water scale? What can you use to clean it off permanently?
Thanks.

Sounds like electrolysis! Do you keep your boat in the water with charger hooked up? That will often result in the electrolysis problem.

No, always take out of the water and store in shed. But it does look like some form of electrolysis or something to do with anode. Any tips on how to stop it?
Thanks

Best I can do is put up this quote from my MG manual:

MotorGuide recommends isolating the trolling motor
battery/batteries from the main engine battery.

Electrolysis Issues Using the engine starting battery as
a source of power for any trolling motor may cause
electrolysis on metallic parts.
If you have followed the battery wiring and
installation instructions in this manual and your
boat continues to have electrolysis issues, you
will need to separate the trolling motor from any
other boat electronics.
Remove the engine starting battery from the
wiring configuration of the boat and isolate the
power circuit for your trolling motor.
Establish a Common Ground: Common ground
means the ground for the main engine accessories
and your trolling motor are connected to the same
negative ground terminal.
Not having a common ground can cause severe
corrosion or electrolysis. If left unchecked, damage
may be caused to your trolling motor and boat.
Establishing a common ground connection will allow
increased sensitivity and improve detail on a sonar
display.

We have alot of hard water in our area and I always assumed mine was a calcium scale but I'm no mineral biologist.

It's corrosion! Do you operate in salt or brackish waters?

To minimize electrolysis you need to help the sacrificial anodes do their job by keeping them shiny clean. Periodically clean the trim tab anode and the sacrificial anode on the bottom of the motor clamp with a wire brush. Also, set up a common ground by running a wire between the negative post of the ignition battery and the negative post of the TM battery. If you have two or three TM batteries in series then make attach the wire at the negative end of the battery array.

Protect the TM by touching up spots where paint is missing.

Thanks guys. I do think it is corrosion from the water. It is weird, in that it collected up on the jack plate and the motor part of the TM.
It doesnt come off easily.
Thanks for the input.

What boat? Battery setup. If you have the cranking battery connected to the trolling battery in any way, make sure you are connected to the same trolling battery that supplies the ground to the trollingmotor.

i am running a 2012 Ranger Z521, 250 SHO, Motorguide 36v, 101, 4 battery set-up. I havent changed anything from NEW rigging.
Shouldnt trolling motor be the only thing connected to 3 of the batteries? and everything else be ran off the starting battery?
Thanks for your help...

ranger was installing battery switch for jump starting. Saw several of these cause problems like this.
