Just got back from the annual family vacation in Destin, FL today. Finally got to go out on my long awaited Gulf kayak trip. Picked the perfect day; flat calm, light winds, and temps in the 85-90 degree range. Picked the perfect guide too thanks to previous posts on this forum; Patrick Tarpey from Slow and Low Coastal Outfitters ( http://www.slowandlowcoastal.com/) was awesome. He put me in a Hobie Pro Angler with a MirageDrive and rudder, probably not a good idea if you already spent money on a kayak like I haveit was like the Cadillac/Lamborghini of kayaks. It was unbelievable to be able to see 20-25 feet down to the bottom while sitting on the surface. After catching bait, which truth be told, the trip could have ended there and it would have been awesome, we dropped two baits down on some snapper and up came two snapper one after the other. I still have the bruise on my underarm. Then started trolling and ended up with 5 or 6 Kings and a nice Spanish mackerel (no pic). First sleigh ride! Cant say enough about Patrick, it was like having an ole fishing buddy right there with youonly with more knowledge (haha). If you go (which judging from all the Texas license plates, many of you do) look him up, he will put you on the fishand hes a Texas boy, so you can trust him!

Awesome. Been to destin 4-5 times but for work except once. If I ever go back I will call and book a trip if possible. Great fish. Looks like fun.

Great report and fish - water looks great. I've offshored (not kayak) Destin many times and it's a great fishery. What depth were you at for the snappers?

Woo! Me too! I was down in Grayton Beach a couple of weeks ago. Went out with Patrick of Slow and Low. My first BTB. It was post snapper season, so we went for Kings. Got two Kings, a Spanish and a shark. I fell in love with that Hobie Outback Patrick lined up for us. I considered it a great lesson in going BTB on a day that was NOT the smoothest, but man it was great! Well worth the tuition. (I was gonna post about it too, but I'm too lazy to figure out how to post pics. I'm on his Facebook page. The guy in the brown Luckenbach hat with a big ol' King on a yellow Outback.)
Tight lines!

Curious as to what brand of buff you're wearing? It looks like it might allow breathing without fogging your glasses.

We have had alot of fun around here lately in the gulf and in the bay. I appreciate you guys coming out and fishing with me. I enjoy every trip out there! Sanpper on this reef were in 57' of water. I have a couple of reefs less than a mile out that are very productive. Too bad snapper season doesnt last very long around here. Fun to mess with while we wait on the Pelagics to show up.
Thanks again to all that have taken a trip with Slow and Low. I look forward to fishing with you all again and any one else that happens to be in my neighborhood of the Panhandle.
Regards Gents
Patrick
