Mine did for about a two count..... Pat/Filletmaker and three others witnessed it. Might put a float on it anyway. My new one floats about thirty seconds and then starts to suspend underneath the surface.

Cork works for me! Lots cheaper than a new one. Sorry for your loss Matt.

Ouch, that hurts. I ruined a cell phone & a digital camera last year when I fell into a pond with them in my pocket. Cost me plenty.

MinnKota remotes aren't waterproof either. My steering went out on my riptide, I messed with every connection on the rolling motor and in desperation opened the remote. Little spot of corrosion in exactly the right place.

I tested mine as well, it floats but I am going to put some cork on it just to be safe. Thanks Matt fir the heads up.

Two phones, one wallet, and one huge brand new 101# Riptide did NOT float for me over the years

Thirty seconds is plenty of time for the fish whisperer to remove wallet, phone, put on birthday suit, jump down, catch a limit of hybrids, noodling for a big cat, and save the remote. With a few seconds to spare

I,m adding a float to mine to be on the safe side, and I want hear the "lost my trolling motor" story.

What a bummer Matt. I "tested" mine one day at my dock and it floated. But I didn't know it would only float for a few seconds. I got the cork lanyard for my sunglasses that you told me about after having some expensive sunglasses fly away one day. Also have floaties on several of my rods after a couple of them flew off friends boats! Now will add a float to the remote. Thanks for the lesson learned information. Say Casey Kindle stopped by our house couple weeks ago! Had been awhile since we'd seen them... That boy is a character!

We saw Matt's hovering about a foot under the water for about 2 seconds and then down it went to Davey Jones Locker. I'm not taking the chance with mine it's going to have a float on it. Pat

That is a true trolling motor story. That spot is like the bermuda triangle, Ruben also lost a high dollar rod and reel there but had a diver retrieve it for him.......he has connections.

Wonder if one of those floating key chains you put on your boat keys will work?
