I'm trying to learn new techniques. When and where would you use this? What setups do you usually use for this technique?

I swim a jig around boat docks. Usually works pretty well.

"swimming a jig" is not a particularly "new" technique. in fact, we used that technique deep water fishing years ago swimming jigs through deep tree tops in the summer here on table rock. as far as when to use the technique, depends on when and where. swimming a jig shallow in place of a spinner bait is a technique that many bassers have just discovered to be effective. vibrating jigs have also found a niche. swimming a jig can be effective, especially when dealing with bass that are suspended in deep water, and also when tucked into shallower cover. i know jimmy houston has commented before that he rarely ever lets his jig hit the bottom. i do not know what type of cover and terrain that you normally fish, but swimming a jig can be effective any time of the year.

I've won two tournaments this year on swim jigs. The first on was a slugfest in march and we caught them in a foot of water or less. The other was in june and we were working them around thick grass. The hookset on a swimjig is the tricky part. It's almost like setting the hook with a crankbait. My biggest tip is match the hatch in skirt color

Swimming a jig works when fishing pressure is high for me

Use 'em anywhere. Santone Rayburn Swim Jigs, rig with a big grub (tail down) on 15 or 20# Seaguar Invizx. Make long casts. Don't use too stiff of a rod, like a flippin' rod. Ya wanna soft tip. I like Falcon's Bucoo Pitching Stick, 6'10" MH.

I agree with senkosmith those have become my favorite jigs this year. A soft tip and a well set drag is very important on these baits. i like the swimming zoom super chunck

Setting the hook with a swim jig is not like setting the hook with a flipping jig. I normally do a "hard crankbait" hookset.

I love swimming a jig!
