Has anyone caught any lately? I know the fish kills put a hurt on them, surely there are some left though.

Jeff, Don't hear of any caught anymore..
FAIRFIELD Fishing has been slow since the fish kill in September of 2010. TPWD has discontinued stocking the lake after another kill in early September 2011.
Redfish and black bass survived the kill in limited numbers.
Wish they would resolve the problem with the Red Fish"
Ramp at Park is a Disaster... Pray for Rain !
Try Lake Calaveras for Freshwater Reds still nice ones there !

I thought fairfield was always constant level, bc it's an active powerplant lake. Am I wrong?

I thought fairfield was always constant level, bc it's an active powerplant lake. Am I wrong? One would think so but .... There are two ramps, one of which was closed in May 2006 due to low lake levels. Last time I was there in 2011 during the Fish Kill it was Down again...and the large ramp again was closed because of the low lake levels and total disrepair of the end of the ramp,, if I recall correctly, I think the biologists had asked to slow the pumping of water into the lake due to being unsure of the exact reason of the Large fish kill and the surface temp was 100 degrees and I will never forget thinking how Bizzare the Posting on the Park Entrance Window was. Warning Lake Water is Extreemly Hot" reaching over 100 degrees , please take precautions. ( or sompthing to that effect" Here's a Link to the 2011 TPWD Press Release Information http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/newsmedia/releases/?req=20110921c. http://www.texasoutside.com/public/reviews/show_lake/13

Check Fairfield off your list for anything but deer and hogs......

Was there this morning. First time I've been on that lake since 2002 probably. The 2nd boat ramp is where you need to go to put in. Its in good shape. I didn't have any luck bass fishing (mostly scouting) but the 1st point I pulled up on towards the dam the reds were rolling the top of the water. 20 feet deep to the point they were all over it. May try to go back tomorrow evening and see what happens. Water temp sits about 93 degF

There were a lot of gar but this roll was different and quite a few times I could see the tail eye. There's still a lot of folks netting tilapia as well.

That's too bad, used to love fishing that lake... Caught a redfish in June of 2006 that went 21 lbs 13 ounces on a small live perch...
