I have an 09 Escape with a 3.0 liter 240 hp V6 with a six speed automatic transmission with OD. I have a 19 ft. ProCraft with 150 motor and a single axel trailer. I plan on towing it to fish El Salto in Mexico. Do you think I will be ok or is there anything that I need to do to improve my trip with this vehicle.

check your brake pads for this long haul, i think your right on the edge with that rig so take it easy, leave yourself plenty of room in front of you and watch the inclines, of course you know not to pull in OD, check your oil and trans fluid at every fill up, you don't want to overheat the engine or transmission

X2, a escape is front wheel drive to begin with. no way I'd tow with that.

What is the max tow rating for it? I am surprised you can tow anything with that vehicle.

3000 lbs including cargo and passengers. I have towed the boat for short distances (25 miles) with no problem and I allow as much room as possible for braking and I have new brake pads.

I will never understand why somebody would want to push the limits like that.
Sure go for it, don't call me when you are busted down on the side of the road in mexico and someone is looking at you like they are a hungry dog and your a T-bone steak.

Agree with others. FWD trznsaxles are not very durable when not taxed. I do not even like towing with an IRS vehicle. I try to keep the towed weight at about 60% of rating or lower. If you are set on towing with the Escspe then see if you can get a scangauge that will read tranny temps. Not sure if they are available for the Escspe.

In all reality you will probably be fine, it sounds like you have been doing it for a while already. I just will never understand how you ended up pulling a 19' foot fiberglass boat with a 150 on it with that!

On second thought after looking up a 19 foot procraft I think you are really pushing your luck. I don't know the exact make or model you have, but for a 19 footer you are looking at almost 1600 lbs for a naked hull. Add 400+ lbs for a motor that puts you at 2000 add a couple hundred for the trailer puts you at say 2600-2700 without any gear(no light batteries anchor rods tackle) no fuel nothing. Your over your max before you even get into the car and put you clothes etc. for the trip in it.

Nope, find something else. As redchevy says, you're over your weight limit before you really even put in any gear, luggage, yourself, fuel in the boat and vehicle, passengers, boat batteries, trolling motor, etc.
And you really don't want to go past 60-75 percent of the tow rating anyway for a long trip like that. Short, infrequent trips might be fine.
But if there's a thread on the TFF in a few weeks about a fisherman who took a front-wheel-drive Escape rated for 3000 pounds and stuck 3500 pounds behind it and 600 pounds in it and then had car trouble in Mexico and got robbed and shot, we'd all be talking about you being a victim of Darwin's law, not a victim of bad circumstance.
FWIW, the engine would be fine with that load. It's the transmission, axles, suspension and brakes that are not rated for that type of setup. If any one of the 4 fails when you're in Mexico, you're going to be in bad shape. Not saying it's a guarantee or anything, but those are a lot of odds stacked against you.

Guys I bought the Escape when I had a aluminum boat with an 80 hp motor. Since it was my everyday vehicle I was trying to save gas. However, I have had some problems with the motor and have decided to sell it. I was just looking for information.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be harsh. The Escape is fine for a metal boat and it's just in general a good vehicle. But it would be pretty risky to tow a 19' fiberglass boat to Mexico with it. That's all I'm saying.

I understand and I got the information that I was looking for either way. I did not know if adding a transmission cooler or any other add on would have improved the effectiveness of the vehicle. This has been a great vehicle but it looks like I need to sell it and get a V8.

If that trailer doesn't have brakes on it, it is really not safe for short hauls. Good news is when you get you a real tow vehicle next time, most are getting better fuel mileage.
