Just an FYI, they have a stocked perch pond in the State Park as well.

I have caught perch recently at night under the bridge from my kayak. The lights draw them to the surface and i can dip net them if i am diligent

I know but it was rather scummy looking a couple of weeks back when I checked it. I watched a couple fish there for thirty minutes using worms. They did not catch anything but did a good job of feeding them. smile Their bobbers were going all over the place.

They were using hooks that were too large for the brim there. Plus they were threading a whole worm on each hook. I suggested they might have better luck if they used pieces of the worm but they were too squeamish to cut the worm into smaller pieces.

Besides the boys want to fish from the new boat. They are young so we will do more riding at first than fishing but while we are fishing I want them to catch as many fish as possible to build interest in fishing.

Does anybody know where you can buy English Larvae? They are dyed maggots but their wiggle on the hook drives brim crazy. They stay on the hook and you can usually catch 2-3 fish on each one. I bought them at the Fork Marina years ago and know you can buy them online.

But I was wondering if any of the local stores sold them. Joe Pool Marina had never heard of them when I asked there.

edited: looks like they are called euro larvae now at the online bait shops. That might have been what they were called at the Lake Fork marina years ago but my tired old memory insists it was English Larvae.

But in either case they are just maggots dyed in various colors which they claim stimulates bites. Frankly I think it was the way they wiggled that caused the bream to bite.

Try petco. They have wax worms and meal worms. Not sure if thats what ur lookin for, but they both work great, and stay on the hook fora few fish. Good luck and tight-lines with the G-kids.

Thanks! I will try that. Which is better, wax worms or meal worms?

I took the grandsons out today but they were more interested in riding than fishing. It was hot and after two hours they were ready to come in. We tried under the bride with worms and crappie nibbles but the bream were not biting. I may have anchored too far out. I was near the third piling.

Used to work at Lynn Creek Marina. They keep their slips and stuff up a lot better than Joe Pool Marina. I believe they are also a little higher but always have a waiting list, especially for 20 and 24 foot slips this time of year. Bream on this lake are very small. Bass eat them up before they get to any size. Also no brackish water and cover for them to grow in. Use small hook and just a piece of night crawler. Have set under that bridge at night with light and hooked one after another when crappie got slow just to catch something.

I was using bream hooks so that wasn't the problem. Nothing was stealing the bait so either they were not there or they were not biting at that time of day.

I wasn't concerned about size, the boys would have enjoyed what ever they caught.

Right now Lynn Creek is a few dollars less than Cedar Hill but Lynn Creek had a three-six month waiting list so I had no choice.

Cedar Hill Marina is now owned by Quest and the slip I am in was build in the last year or so. So it is in good condition. The only problem is the hydrilla is close and strands sometimes gets in the prop while entering and leaving the slip.

They are trying a new poison on it but from what I have read that stuff is almost impossible to kill.
