What is your go to plastic for both Specs and Reds. Also how do you rig them up? Looking to pick up some of them for a trip this weekend down to Matagorda.

I'm down to two styles, hogie super minnow and Norton sand eel, both rigged on Oldham screw lock heads. Clear water/high sky: red/white, Baffin magic (pink) green water/low sky: pumpkin/chartreuse, white chartreuse
One of those will work every day.

Pat, what do you mean by high sky/low sjy? is it the amount of clouds/light? Seeing the experienced fishermen comment and Jean's pictures it is quite clear that it is the indian and not the arrow that makes things work.

Yeah, High=bright Low=dark. You do have a certain amount of attention to the speed of your presentation, and figuring out what's getting hits *TODAY*, but it's not what I'd call complicated. You can always tie a 12" leader to a Mansfield mauler cork and go to work on them, a lot of my first time ever guests catch a LOT of fish on that rig. It takes two seconds to "twitch and reel" lessons and they're on their way to fun on the bay.
And matching the presentation to the local area is important, Jean obviously has success with his baits, if you throw those where I fish, you'd be constantly harassed by "hubber" fish, like piggies and needle gar wanting to mess with the little flashy baits.
This time of year, saltwater fish do nothing but eat. Their metabolism is wide open, and their scarfing anything they can, as often as they can. If you're not catching right now, you're not around any fish, pure and simple.

thanks for the pic post. looks like a 1/4 oz jig head.. why do you put a bead in the line? I use 1/16 oz.,1/8 oz.crappie jigs, never 1/4 oz.. I put the colored beads between the sliding egg sinker for rattle effect.
