I have lived 27 minutes from the britton park ramp my whole life and went and checked it out for the first time today. First time I've actually ever seen joe pool. Is there good fishing in this lake? I primarily fish catfish and sandbass, food fisherman.
I drive 2 hours round trip to Aquilla almost very weekend and am thinking of saving some serious gas money and giving this lake a shot.
I don't hear much on it from the forum so I have hesitations.
Also has anyone launched at Briton? It looks pretty stumpy

There is a decent amount of channel cat at Joe Pool. Nothing huge but you can catch plenty of eaters. As far as sand bass they've been hit and miss for me. Small population of shad = small population of sandies. They're there but harder to find and in smaller schools in my experience. I would give it a shot since its so much closer.

I would think for burleson, it's not worth it. Benbrook would be closer, and its a better cat lake. Don't hear much about Aquila, but it might be better than there as well.

My experience:

Catfish - Lots, and a few decent sized
Sandies - TONNNNNS, but 99% dinks
LMB - Haven't caught one over 2# yet in this lake
Crappie - What crappie?!?! I have heard good stories bout the crappie there, but i haven't found them yet.

Thanks for the input. I have fished benbrook until it ticked me off enough I have given up on it and starting driving to Aquilla.

Sounds like the pool has some cats so I will give it a shot

Its a good lake for swimming! I caught a 7 pound bass there too! no big catfish though it is something wrong with the water being on a hill and no eutrophication. Not enough poop and waste going into the lake to feed the fish.

Joe Pool has the 2nd lowest nutriants of any lake in Texas according to TP&W. Largemouth have depleted shad population and only place I hear of any catfish being caught is in Britton Park area. It's really a shame they have let that lake go south except for Largemouth. Most guides won't even work that lake anymore. Have had decent luck with crappie under the bridges but only at night. Zippo during the day.
