Just bought a Skeeter with a Yamaha motor and want to take care of it. I will be using a good grade of oil, I've allways used Sta-bal in my gas but was told to use Yamalub.
Why and what is the differance?

sta bil is a an ethanol treatment that prevents the ethanol from eating your gas lines. While Yamalube (ring free) is for keeping your engine clean, I use the same combo and use the yamalube (ring free) every other fill up, it does wonders in keeping the engine clean and running smoothly.

Keep using Sta bil, the rest is up to you. Sta-bil has no effect on ethanol. Their have been several test on additives and their effectiveness against the effects of ethanol all were negative on results. Best protection is a good water separator fuel filter, w/water drain, seeing how water is attracted to ethanol.

When I bought my new to me G3/Yamaha, the first thing I did was install a Racor water separator. I used to do sailboat small diesel service, and it's interesting to see how much moister can accumulate in a vented fuel tank.
I was told by a local dealer to use yamalube so I do it. I buy it there for $26 a gluon, and split between around 2.5 tanks of fuel, the cost compared to Quicksilver oil at Academy is negligible.

Why do the Yammy Techs tell you to do it then? Just curious I think I would trust the certified tech more than anyone.

All you have to do smart a is look up their web sight`s and look at the additives claims and ingredients. Both claim to be cleaners. Quit letting product manufactures blow smoke up your you know what. Look it up.

You would think they Yammy techs would follow Yamaha recommendations. ? Here's a warning from the Yamaha website.

"CAUTION: Debris and water in your engine are maintenance-related problems and are therefore not covered by your Yamaha limited warranty."
