I finally saw the action this morning off the bank by Silverlake (by the rocks). I got there at 7:45am this morning, it was calm and quiet until around 10am, all of the sudden all the bait fishes were jumping out the water right in from of me, I meant like 20 fts in front of me, it lasted like 5-10 mins then they moved further out then came back again and again....., I finally caught some keepers after 5 weeks of fishing between Grapevine and Lewisville. By the way, I didn't see the bait fish jumping action last night when I was there but the guy next to me caught 4 keepers within 20 mins off the same spot, he was using shinners and he was using crappie rigs like setup with 2 baits each time.

Look for schooling sandbass around meadowmere in the morning. Im usually able to go there and catch good keepers on slabs

I've seen this just south of the boat ramp at Lakeview too thrown every silver slab I've got and still bingo.

Fish eat things. I'll put things in the water that fish like to eat. I'll attach these things to a hook, line, rod, and reel. How hard can this be?

I guess I'm going to have to switch to live bait. We were in several schools of them Saturday morning and only got three little ones. We threw spoons, sassy shad, slabs, ra-t-l traps and tiny torpedos. The three were all pulled in on spoons.

Here is my two cents. We caught about 40 yesterday (from a boat). We started out with rattle traps, but switched to tiny traps. That seemed to improve things a lot. They seemed to be a lot closer in size to the shad they were chasing. Good luck.

Thanks Dave. We were in a boat as well. I haven't thought about going smaller in lure size. Looks like I need to make an Academy run.

We got into acres of surfacing (small) sandies this morning about 9-10:30 am at Murrell Park (directly north of the island). We left them biting after about an hour or so! It was getting hot and we were tired of the small ones.

It was a lot of fun anyway. They were biting cohoes and silver slabs.

I hope the tiny traps work for you. We also left them biting yesterday. My daughter was getting hot. One minor rant/request. Please don't run your boat through surfacing fish. I know it's up for debate if it bothers the fish, but it definitely bothers this guy. Please swing wide of it. (I seriously doubt this applies to anyone reading this. So it's probably a waste of typing, but I feel a little better). End of rant/request. Good luck OU Sooner.

It never hurts to say it. You wouldn't believe how many people don't understand that kills the bite.

Try a little (1/4 oz) tail spinner or an inline spinner and you will catch as many small ones as there are in the school. Gvine has smaller fish so downsize your presentation.

This.

Try a humdinger.
Cast in to the school. Let it sink for a 3 count. Reel as fast as you can for 3 count. Sink for 3 count.
Fish will hit it on the stop.
Rinse/Repeat/Profit.

The only thing that you may want to try changing is the color. Chartreuse and White humdingers were my go-to baits. Cloudy days = chartreuse. Sunny days = white.

If you're not catching the bigger fish there, then cast it out, let it sink to the bottom and work it the same way as above but don't reel as fast.

Were your Spoons really small? the sandbass have been feeding on little baitfish so I have been having luck on 1/4 ounce spoons. caught 40 on my boat and 20 of them were keepers.

Thanks for the tips. Can't wait to get back out there. Going to try Wednesday or Thursday morning. Will rooster tails work on sand bass? I'm new so my lure selection is still pretty limited. I have different size (all silver) slabs so if I want to change color I have to the rooster tails.

And thanks especially for the info on the retrieve. I tried different speeds and letting it sink but I never started and stopped.
