Can't hardly beat an orange marker a few feet from your honey hole, IMHO.

That works great for a spot, but I troll all spring and some of my planned routs can be from 50' to several hundred yards long and if you put out a line of orange markers your gonna have a hard time keeping that line open because everyone that see's that will be all over where the markers are dropped. I trolled stump fields all spring and some places were probably a mile long and with something driving for you this has to be a lot easier than me driving the TM.
I would still use a marker to fish a spot, but that for me is just summer fishing.

I have the older spot lock and I agree that it doesn't hold on a pinpoint spot. However, when I find them kinda scattered holding under baitfish not tight to brush piles it works great. We will fish a couple hours. Keep 10 or so, then go chase sand bass or catfish where it helps a ton. Like skip, I slow troll a lot in cooler months, except we spider rig mostly, and the cruise control feature is great for it. Just my opinion. I like the link option, hoping to get that on my next one, but couldn't afford it this time out.

Skips,

Sounds like you got exactly what you are needing. With Sand Bass Fishing, Striper, or Bass Fishing, the Trolling Motor you are talking about can be very useful, along with Spider Rigging, and trolling for Crappie.

Sounds like a sound, quality decision on your New Trolling Motor. Good Job.....

Thanks Keith, but he TM I have had for sometime like 5 or 6 years at least and I just installed the iLink in it. The Terrova has been a good one, and I long line troll as much as I possible can for crappie, been doing it like that since about 1979 is spring and fall, don't fish winter and almost just at night in summer so for me the contour control will be great so I can fish and let the TM drive.

I do occasionally spoon jig for what ever hits and have a good spot that holds black bass, white bass, yellow bass as well as crappie. S the spot lock will at least come in there, but also anything the clouds are out and letting the crappie get out of their brush pile. I really could care less about the bass fishing especially the white bass and when I do that it's because a rend wants to do that. I have not really black bass fished since I sold my bass boat about 11 years ago, my body is just not up for that any more.

I don't spider rig or even slow troll as a rule, but who knows maybe that will be next, well at least the slow troll as spider rigging is not something that I ever care to do.

This year after a few trips out I really didn't need ay more crappie this ear for the table and my neighbor had his years worth in the first week of fishing. We started Feb 3 and by the end of that week he has what he will eat all year. It took me a little longer because I had to tie so it took me 5 or 6 weeks to go about 4 times and that was enough for the table this year. I catch all I could possible ever need in the spring long line trolling my Roadrunners.
