I have seen the stores with all the graphs on display and just wondering where can I get this adapter so that I can view my HB 1198 in my work shop.

Radio Shack has them.
I use the type that has an auto receptacle and put a matching plug on an extra power cord to connect the two.
You need a power supply with at least 1A capacity.
When I am not fishing, I have at least one SI unit on my desk, most of the time I have two.

Consider getting a regulated 12 volt DC power supply...not the cheap cigarette plug style adapters that are not power supplies. They are fine for charging a cell phone battery or heating up a cup of coffee, but most will have no voltage regulation and will have AC ripple atop their 12volt DC outputs. Their output voltages often vary depending on the load changes due to the size and brightness setting of your display. They can possibly damage your sonar's own input regulation internally making them later susceptible to voltage fluctuations when they are put into the boat and you crank a motor dipping the voltage briefly. And the RF filtering in the sonar may be damaged then giving the sonar susceptability to interference from the trolling motor RF.
3 amps minimum with better than 5% regulation, voltage variable preferred over fixed .. 5 amps surge preferred. If it doesn't state its' AC ripple spec, consider not buying, as it is possibly poorly filtered.

I guess I've been lucky for over 7 years with no problems. In Simulator there is no output voltage to support a transducer or GPS antenna or any other accessories.
The smallest 1A one can support a 1198c SI with the brightness at max. It shows 13.2V on the unit digital readout that I am looking at as I type this.

Take a look at these. It says DC to AC, but it is AC to DC. I have one of these and it works well. Used a spare FF power cord to connect to the unit http://www.walmart.com/ip/Schumacher-DC-to-AC-Converter-6-Amp/13005735

Consider getting a regulated 12 volt DC power supply...not the cheap cigarette plug style adapters that are not power supplies. They are fine for charging a cell phone battery or heating up a cup of coffee, but most will have terrible voltage regulation and AC ripple atop their 12volt DC outputs that are often not very close to 12volts depending on the load affected by the size and brightness setting of your display. They can damage your sonar's own input regulation internally making them later susceptible to voltage fluctuations when they are put into the boat and you crank a motor dipping the voltage briefly.
3amps minimum with better than 5% regulation, voltage variable preferred over fixed .. 5 amps if you can locate. If you know any HAM radio operators ask them if they have a spare 12V power supply. They are as described above, regulated and put out nice clean power.

GET A 12 VOLT BATTERY LIKE USED ON DEER FEEDERS, ABOUT 35.00 INCLUDES CHARGER. GET A POWER CORD FOR YOUR UNIT, HOOK IT UP. BE SURE TO ALWAYS HAVE A FUSED LINK IN THE HOT WIRE.
