I went this this morning and did some drifting with santee cooper rigs and I was wondering how far behind the boat you guys drift? This was my first time and I'm trying to figure out a way to reduce the bouncing rod tips that come with dragging bottom

The more line you let out the less it seems to bounce. Here recently the longer lines are getting more hits. I am talking about lines that I have forgot about and nearly spooled!!

Use less weight or a different style weight.

Tip: If you can't keep a 1 oz weight on the bottom, you're drifting too fast and/or you don't have enough line out.

I sometimes find that I've let out half a spool or better of line.

Its a lot of fun reeling in a big fish when you have let out most of your line lol. I will cast out my first rod and not lock it down until i have my third rod out.

I use 6, 1/4 oz egg weights on a swivel, tied in a row ( snake) with a 2" cigar float on a 4/0 circle hook, about 25 yards out. Using a 7' m/h rod with a trolling reel, 6:1 gear ( helps on long distance reel in) and of course fresh cut up shad. Get very little rod bounce.
