I have no intentions of fishing tournaments but we love to bass fish. Most of the time it is me and my 12 year old nephew or sometimes my wife goes with us. We have a 14' john boat, my plan is to keep it and buy a full size bass boat within the next 6 months or so. I like the small boat for going to places that big boats don't, small bodies of water, etc.. I'm wondering if a bass tracker like a 17' with a 40hp or something would be good enough for us to use on the lake but would also be small enough to go other places (private lakes, ponds or whatever) - or should I just keep the small boat for those situations, and buy a 20' bass boat? That has been my plan for awhile but I've been looking at and thinking about these bass trackers. Also the small boat is a not very comfortable if were out all day. Thanks for your input

I thought the same thing and did it. I purchased a Bass Tracker in June and I had a new Skeeter in July. They are not all they are hyped up to be. Or I will say not for what I wanted to do anyway.

The only problem with a small boat like that is wind on bigger lakes. Look at both and factor in cost. A 20' boa t with a 200 will cost a lot more in every aspect compared to the tracker.maybe a happy middle would be better for you. An 18' tracker or fiberglass boat.

I had a 18.5 tracker w a 90 and upgraded to a 18.5 champion w a 150 and I'm glad I did! I feel more comfortable on big lakes, but can still fish small lakes, and it doesn't skate across the water like my tracker did. U can't go wrong with a 18 or 19 foot glass boat in my opinion, that's what I'd suggest, better resale value too,

Trackers are tough to manage on windy days and rough seas. I want one just for back waters, and may be my next big purchase. I want a sport jet though, to run in skinny water.

I had one for 15 years. There were days I wished I was in a bigger boat( rough water, speed, room) and then there were days I was glad I had it( ease of loading , fishing shallow water, tight spots, etc) you can get in trouble in any size boat ther are pros and cons to either. Over all I was please with mine. Had a chance to upgraded and did. Just pay attention to wind and weather and trailer to places to avoid rough open water and you will be ok

I had A tracker for 8 years and I was perfectly happy with it. Only when I got into tournament fishing did I need to upgrade. It did everything I wanted to accept on really windy days.

They're great for bank beaters and you don't worry about beatin em up, like bumping a dock, scratches, etc. In the wind, they suck, plain & simple.

just got rid of one today. I had no real dislikes with it.
But, ran out of room pretty quick. Pulling out into the boat '
lane at fork made me realize I needed a faster boat. overall the resale was the only real thing that really chapped me off.

Go look and ride in the new Ranger and Triton alum. boats. A totally different tin boat for a few dollars more. Texas Boat World has both and will arrange to take you if we know your coming. fish

I looked at boats for over a year while upgrading from a small jonboat. Final 2 choices were between a tracker and an X-press. Both were the same price. I went with the X-press and feel pride when I pull up to the ramp. With the tracker I wondered about the pride and confidence factor. Go with the max horse power if you can.

I've had two trackers and love them. Economical, practical and roomy enough. Not great in wind. My next boat will probably be a tracker.
