July was good but ended with a whimper as noted on my last report. August is a whole new month and she starts out....
Got on the water with dad and brother around 6:30 on a steamy Thursday. As soon as we got out of the dock we found a large school of sandies. We caught a bunch of smaller sandies using smaller lures. When we were tired of the catching, we decided to look around the lake for nicer fish. After not finding a whole lot, I decided to return to the spot where FlogOrFish was catching a bunch the night before. There were two boats already there so we eased and joined the catching. The catching was good but it wasn't great so my brother suggested that we check a place that has not produced much for us this year. I reluctantly obliged since there was about 30 minutes left of day light.
It's amazing how the last stop, the last check this spot saves a slow or average fishing day to a great one. We filled the cooler in a brief amount of time and spend the rest of the evening catch and release.
AWESOME catching redemption on Lewisville 8/1.
When the catching is good like the night before, brother and I wished our kids were there to enjoy the good times with us. So when I got home, I groveled and made a bunch of bargains. Somehow, I was able to convince the wife and kids to join us. They would be there again right?
We waited till the late afternoon to head out with kids and family. At the first spot we did not mark much so I decided to say hello to Chuck before heading out to where we found them the night before. As we closed, we found schools of fish underneath us and him. Chuck was gracious enough to let us fish next to him. Fishing was not crazy good but we caught enough fish to keep the some of my kids interested. Then BAM and BAM, the hybrids came knocking on my lure. I wished they would have struck my wife's or kids lures but they were on mine. Oh well!
When the catching slowed just a little, we thanked Chuck and headed to where we found them the night before. Actually the fishing never slowed but we wanted to kids on some easy fish so we bolted to the spot we caught a bunch the night before. They were not there in large numbers but we caught enough before calling it a night. So blessed to have my family and kids out fishing with me.
Here's to a great August!
