I left cap open on my oil resevoir and it rained. Was not much water but I drained my resevoir, unhooked everything from it and pulled it out to clean very good. Put it all back together and it won't turn over. I have power on lights when I turn key but starter won't engage at all. I'm thinking there's another step in this process I don't know about.
Question: Was I suppose to do something about pumping oil in engine? You know that pump above resevoir is too hard to pump?

Before you start it you probably need to prime the oil injection. Once you pulled the oil tank you need to do it.
On a Merc first find which of the two lines goes to the in engine oil tank. There should be an in-line fitting within 6 inches or so of the tank. Take that apart and use a vacuum (oil extractor or mityvac type) to pull oil out of the tank up to the tube. Once you pull enough oil through the line that you think takes all the air out, then reconnect the oil line. Open the top cap of the in engine oil tank and remove between 1/4 and half the tanks oil. Then place the cap on but don't screw it completely back on. You will need to allow air to come out here. Then start the motor and let it run. The in engine tank will fill up within a couple seconds or a minute. Wait till oil fills the tank then screw the cap back on.
It sounds like you have something else going on here that keeps your engine from turning over but you really need to take the air out of your oil lines.

My resevoir has warning lights that come on when oil is low and it will not let you start it until you put more oil in the resevoir. I'm sure when I cleaned it all up, I now have air in the lines and it keeps the starter from turning on.
Your info helped, but I think I am not enough mechanic to play in here with success. Look out Rockwall Marina, here I come.
Thanks for your info.
