Whats the best way to clean an H2o mettle reel?. Is there a certain way to take it apart to clean and grease the gears and bearings. I've had mine a couple of years and all I've done so far is rinse them with water.

Best thing to do is first get schematics so you don't put any part on the wrong way or forget a part. There are some good videos on youtube. watch them all before you start taking your mettle apart. With that said, I think at this point, fish that mettle until there is something wrong with it then just take it to academy they'll exchange it for you.

At first it was about the fish, now it's about so much more...

What Timmy said. I just this past week exchanged an H2O Mettle that I had purchased way back in 2007. I've been using it hard in nothing but salt water. It was doing great until I got a back lash and was trying to fix it, and somehow broke it. I had saved the box and receipt. Took it back, after 6 hard years of use, and they exchanged it for a new one no problem at all.

All I ever did with it after fishing was rinse it well with fresh water from the tap, and dry it off. Put a bit of oil in the bearings ever now and then, maybe once or twice a year. That's it. They are great reels. And, I can cast a light weight jig into the wind with no problem usually. The backlash I had gotten was because when I tried to cast I caught my jig on a part of the boat, and there ya go, instant back lash.
