In my opinion if your fishing in any cover and T-rigging, 65# is great. I wouldn't crank with it because of hook tearing out the mouth probabilities go up. If your T-rigging on structure than 65# may be overkill, and could work against you. On open water structures i use 15# flouro.

I only used mono, big game. Recently switched to braid with a floro leader. Don't know if I will ever use mono again other than for top water and maybe crankbaits. I can't say that for certain I caught more fish solely because of the switch, all I know for sure is when I switched I caught fish......

Another reason for using a magic marker on braid is to get rid of your scent. I use 10lb braid on my spinning setups but never without A big flouro leader. I flip with 15-17lb flouro. The only time I really ever use straight braid is when im punching or fishing frogs.

it also comes down to what you have confidence in. I could sit here all day and give you reasons, but if you dont have confidence in it you're not gonna fish it effectively.

What's the rationale for not using braid when you are fishing a crankbait?

No stretch in the line. Has a tendency to rip out the hooks.

Braid wont stretch, so it could very easily rip the hooks out of the fishes mouth. If you must use braid in a cranking situation either loosen the drag, or your rod must compensate...think of crankbait hooks as being Velcro when hooked up.
