 Nice result for my first time targeting gar

I've tried to catch a flathead on rod and reel two full nights now without success. After seeing lots of gar the first time, this time I thought I would target them while catfishing. We landed several gar, but this was the biggest. I didn't take measurements but it was certainly heavier than the heaviest fish I had previously caught in freshwater which were chinook salmon (~ 20 pounds) out of Lake Michigan. All the gar were released unharmed. After this much success, I might have to target them a little more. This is what my four year old son calls a "monster fish" after watching River Monsters. Any guesses as to weight? CR

56" and 22lbs sounds right to me.But Ive never caught one that big.Good gar anyway,that boogers long! Those long nose can be fun or a Dang pain.Good job!

56" and 22lbs sounds right to me.But Ive never caught one that big.Good gar anyway,that boogers long! Those long nose can be fun or a Dang pain.Good job! I'd say this is pretty close
