Ok, I was thinking about this and thought I would say something. You guys that use braided line and get hung up, why do you just cut it off and leave 20 feet or more in the lake. The other day I got hung up several times just to pull up 20 or more feet of braided line to the boat. I have seen guys get hung up and then just cut the line at the rod tip and go on their way. WHY ??

Maybe that just happened to you with braid but I get into a lot more mono/floro than I do braid. I'm sure part of it is because more people use mono/floro. But like you said, there is a long piece of line left in the water. Seems like a lot of folks just cut or break their line instead of trying to work their lure or hook loose. Still see a lot of wadded up mono stuck on limbs. Can't figure that out either. Just as easy to take it with you and throw in trash or even recycle.

I always try to break at the knot... I can't I pull and absolutely reach as far as I can and cut it. I will set the hook on line EVERY TIME and always get hung up

I carry a wooden dowel with me and wrap it around the braid so I can pull it and break it off closer to the knot. If you pull with the reel/spool you run the risk of warping the spool.

Braid should bend live bait hooks pretty easily.

The thing that scares the poop out of me is when those jigs come screeeeaming back at you if the hook straightens. Would hate to see a jig punch a hole in someone or some boat.
