Tough day for me and the wife today. About the only consolation was that I didn't get skunked.
Had a 2# 10oz and this 4# 2oz. Lost another one at the boat bigger than this one. Fish weren't all that aggressive today.

Tried deep and other than a couple of bumps I hooked up two stumps. The first one I got my lure back. The second one ate it. $20 down the tubes.
Oh well. There is always the next time. Hopefully others did better than I did.

What $20.00 lure were you using? hmmm

I learned my lesson on Canyon Lake when it comes to hanging expensive lures. When I started paying more than $5.00 for a lure I got one of those lure retrievers from BPS. It has paid off a hundred times over for me. I just can't afford to sacrifice expensive lures.

I am looking forward to next month when all the snot mongers have to go back to school. I have planned a few days off the end of the month and hope to fish D-lap without a ton of boat traffic. Gonna try a few of my $20.00 lures and see what happens.

Real nice fish by the way.

I was there Saturday morning until around noon, caught a 2 pounder on a square bill I the middle of the shad explosion and had one really nice blowup on a frog in the lilly pads, I spent a long time fishing deep with c rigs but just could not get anything going, was a very ruff trip to say the least, I thinkwill throw in the towel on Dunlap, just to many wake boarders and skiers which some of those guys feel there is no need to be considerate of another persons time on the water, see you in Jan Dunlap.

It was that new SKT Magnum 110. I will buy another one. It's really is a nice lure. Easy to cast and easy to retrieve. Pulls less than a 5XD and I could feel the bottom in 12ft. Supposed to go down to 14ft and maybe it will but I use a 5.4:1 reel. A 6.4 would probably work ok, maybe a bit much for a 7.0 or higher.
I was working the drop off right off the shallows at Schumans so if you snag it let me know smile
I have a lure retriever. Worked great on the first snag. No go on the second. We worked it for about 10 minutes or so. It became a challenge but in the end I pulled to hard and it snapped.

At Canyon I mostly fish soft plastics....minimal investment.

For $20.00, I would consider getting wet.

Just curious... I looked at this lure when it first came out. Have you owned it for a while? I mentioned trying one in another thread and was hoping someone would mention giving it a shot. It just looks like a perfect lure to run on D-lap and not kill your arm cranking it. Lord knows I have marked a lot of fish in the 10 to 18 foot range on D-lap. I think those depths are the sweet spot in the summer and the 110 would be perfect to target that range.

You should try cranks on the major points on Canyon. Don't get me wrong, I use plastics on Canyon but... I have had 50 fish days on fat free shads that run in the 6-10 feet depth. Granted, big fish are not all over it, but several twos and an occasional three. I can't buy a bite on D-lap with a fat free shad.

If I snag your lure, Ill give it back to you.

I just bought it on Saturday. I posted a pic in my Dunlap 7/21 post. Boerne Marine stocks them now.
I marked lots of fish deep. Some mighty big returns down there. I was throwing the 110 and my wife was throwing a different deep diver.
I'm just not sure they are all bass. I've seen huge carp and gar in there and I'm sure a few flatheads too. Although I haven't heard of it but I wonder if Stripers could make it that far down from Canyon. Too many returns and no bites.

I like fishing Canyon. I usually stick to the cliffs. Each trip I'll catch one or two smallies. Earlier this year I caught a few in other spots on squarebills. I will visit Canyon again, maybe this weekend and try deep diving on points.
