Have never done any type of saltwater fishing, cant afford a guide. Any advice to shorten the learning time will be appreciated.

Throw gold/silver spoons in the surf in the morning. In the evening, Go to the end of the South jetty with gold/silver spoons and new penny / chartreuse Gulps. Try to keep the baits in the disturbed water. Work the baits along the rocks. The reds and trout will be waiting in ambush for the baitfish to get swept by. If you are new to saltwater fishing, there is no need to try and keep bait alive. If you want to catch fish on every cast, go to any spot in the surf and put dead shrimp on the bottom with a small barrel weight. You will get hit every time, but they will be whiting, piggies, hardheads and drum and reds on occasion

Gotchas work well to, as do MirrOlure 52MRs in red/white.

threw spoons in the second gut this morning. Pretty tough with the waves, hooked up once, pulled drag and came unbuttoned. Will try the jetty tonight. thanks
