Trying to bring this thread back alive in 2013!
I'm a current aggie and me and my roommate have fished just about every little pond/river/creek we can find around the Bryan/CS area. It's just been a failure. We've caught tons of perch everywhere with little nightcrawlers. Tried stink baits, live small perch, nightcrawlers, hot dogs, and all different kinds of bass fishing in Gabbard, Bush Library, Police Pond, Gibbons, and Navasota River at hwy 30.
Navasota River at hwy 30 seems like it was the best by far. Didn't catch anything there, but didn't stay for long. It definitely seems like it has the most potential though!
Wondering if anyone has had any luck under the bridge lately (not looking to get a boat just yet). Let me know if anyone has any other tips for the area!

If you want bass, go to the golf course pond in Bryan, or finfeather lake. You will catch good bass there.
Never had much luck under the bridge on 30. Too many people there. And I wouldn't be there after dark....some strange things happen there.
Get a Kayak. You can go 200 yards in either direction from the bridge on 30 and catch more fish. If you kayak around the first point on gibbons and get back into some coves, the catfishing is pretty good. Get the best Kayak you can afford, but even if you get a cheap one you will still be much happier with the fishing you have access to.

Never caught much at Navasota and 30.....really got unnerved one night upriver from there in a boat. A huge splash happened that I will never know what it was, but it scared us off the river. Maybe there were huge gators I had not heard about or a meteor....that was back in 1976....The best luck of all the mudholes was below the dam at Somerville. Try the Koppe Bridge area on the big Brazos if if is still open........Caught a big bowfin in the Navasota I remember....Still may be in a bucket at Nagle Hall.

The HWY 30 bridge is burnt out but it is possible to catch something there if you are lucky. The best spot is up river using a yak or canoe I have caught catfish, perch, crappie and the small red eyed river bass. There is also a deep hole about 15 to 18 foot deep down river but it to far to paddle. It's about half way between HWY 30 and Sulphur Springs. There is a spot I am thinking of trying out today on the Navasota for bass. Anyone is welcome to join...
