Been using 8lb vicious hi viz. It keeps wrapping around the tip of the pole which is super annoying.

I'm surprised at how well I'm liking the PowerPro 8# braid with 1# diameter. Still prefer 4# Stren on the buggy whip.

Experiment, cause even though I'm set in my ways it's good for me to get out of the comfort zone every now and then.

Jacob,

I believe that when using 8' or longer rods, it is just the whip action on the end of your rod while moving it around that causes the Tip Wrapping. I have been using Braid for 3 years now, and it still happens on my rods. Right off the spool, Braid is a little more rigid that Mono, which helps out a little, but within a couple of fishing trip, the braid will loosen up and get more limber. Then you are back to the same problem.

I'm sure most of your problem is like mine. It happens more when your jig is out of the water. To reduce the Tip Wrapping, I have had to work at being more gentle with my rod when it is not in the water. Once it has the drag of the water pulling, and allowing pressure on the jig, there is less wiggle at the rods tip, and keeps the line from whipping around. It is hard to realize how much vibration you have at the poles end, but I believe this is the main problem, not the line. I have had to work, and learn how to keep the rod from vibrating so much when getting in fishing position. There is a lot of vibration on these longer poles, whether you can see it or not.

I have learned, and made myself SLOW DOWN the movement of the rod when moving it, while out of water, and have reduced the Tip Wrapping a little. But I still get some of it. I have tried several different brands of braid over the years, and NONE help with the issues of the longer rods. Just pay more attention with the action at the end of your rod, slow down your movements when jig is out of the water, and this will help reduce Tip Wrapping. But you are still going to have some of it, unless you go back to a 6' or less rod. But I don't believe line, whether Mono or Braid will change the outcome of this problem. So, I would use the line that I like, and feel more comfortable in using.

I use 10# braid, and don't loose ANY jigs. It straightens out my hooks, then I reshape them, and right back to fishing. After you have straightened the hooks out several times, the hook will break off due to bending back and forth, but you will get a lot more use of you jigs.

Being a old man, I wear the Long Sleeved Fishing Shirts to shield my TENDER Skin rolleyes from the sun. When I get hung banana (and I mean my Jig hung), I just wrap the line around my wrist cuff to do my pulling. The braid is strong, and will put more pressure on my old man wussy hands than I like. But what ever it takes, I get the hook pulled straight and back to fishing.

Once a month, I cut about 10'-12' of line off to make sure I don't have any line scuffs, when pulling those 2#ers out of the water. don't know if these are the best ideas, but they are a old mans ideas, and are proven, at least in my boat. loco_2

I was going to mention the long rod as a contributor to the line wrap at the tip. Seen a lot of folks including friends and family using the glorified cane poles having that problem. But I didn't mention it because being a stubby buggy whip rod guy I figured it would be considered a biased observation.

Thanks for the honesty Mr. Simmons.

seems to me rod length is of some consequence in the line wrapping issue but i run it on 6 foot rods and have that issue from time to time as well ....
cant control the wind and the first 4 to 6 feet of drop i slack line till i think i am nearing the strike zone ...
and in response to tree bass i am still in the testin mode but it seems to be superior line to me on the clear quite easily
i can break 6 lb mister crappie easier than the 4 lb bone head mono in most cases from my early experimentation .
i am looking forward to trying sum of Josh's colored mono soon and see if i have the same results ...
