they are probably experiencing the same or similar financial constraints the Texas state parks are experiencing; in today's world it ALL ABOUT $$$$$$$$$; just not enough to go around-p-

Settle down, everybody. EXACTLY the same amount of Trout will be stocked in the river by the end of the year. The truck was coming from Nebraska under-capacity, so they are going to bring more trout per load/fewer loads per year.

Unfortunately, the Beavers Bend Fly Shop forum is down. The hatchery owner's wife gets on there and posts updates from time to time. She could probably give us the real word on what is happening.

I was advised by Donny Carter that the new owner has someone working on getting it back online. That is all I know.

If the Oklahoma state park service were to make the stream a fly fishing stream only, yes it would cut the business of bait fisherman in the surrounding areas, however more fly fisherman would be attracted to the area. Considering most fly fisherman practice catch and release it would also increase population and attraction of more fisherman. Now this will never happen so the fly fisherman will continue to fight the law breaking bait fisherman that continue to pull several limits from a hole. A friend and I just got back today from BB today. On Friday we fished a fairly well known hole catching 25+ above 14" (All fish went back to where they were caught from alive), the next day we took some other friends down there at 5:30am making sure we got ahead of the bait fisherman and only caught 3. We assume the bait fisherman that were braving the storm on Friday in trash bags and ponchos saw us catch all of those good fish and moved down and cleared them out after we left. Ended up being a good trip but could have been better if I didn't have to deal with all the bait fisherman crowding holes and taking lots of fish.

If you truly need to put fish on the table you can save a lot of money buying them from the store instead of pulling them from the river.

I've never found a way to make stocker trout fit to eat; I'll take a brim 10 to 1 over a trout as table fodder-p-

The only trout I can stand to eat is a wild brook trout. Anything else isn't very good. Fried bream are good.

OK, probably jumping on a thread that is already a bit polarized (hey, we fisherman need polarized glasses), but I'm headed to Mountain Fork for the first time in a couple of weeks. I like to catch trout, but I have no quarrel focusing on smallies. What I read here is that this river is managed as a "put and take" fishery....planted trout headed for the cooler. That has its place. Is it a misuse of a tailwater that could support a sustainable population without planting? Depends on who F&G is targeting as their customer, but "going native" is a long process that requires very strict regs. Ideally, artificial fly/barbless hooks/no kept fish would begin at the dam, and transtion to less regulated water downstream. If that is the case with Mountain Fork, I think this is as it should be.My first impression is that it is not set up that way, and therein lies the problem. We will see.

If the State's move in managing the LMF is negative and effects the fishing they will revise it.

It amazes me that when people walk up to a hole that has been stocked with trout, and they don't catch anything, they swear that there are no fish there!!

It's called fishing not CATCHING! I fished Beaver's Bend last week and caught about 20 fish on the day I went. I did not catch a fish on every cast, nor did I catch fish on every fly I offered them!!

There are fish to be caught at Beaver's Bend!! If you don't know how to catch them, Hire A Guide!!

YES... There are a lot of fish put in & taken out in a very few days' time... NO... The bait chuckers are not cleaning them ALL out!!!

Learn how to fish with a drift-free drag after you have presented your fly with no splash of your fly line...

Learn WHAT the fish are feeding on... AND how deep they're feeding...

There is NO crying in FLY FISHING!!
