AGAIN!!! This time at the gas station yesterday when I was filling to truck with the boat hitched up to it. Had a guy get out of his truck and come over to me, asking how much I wanted for my boat. Not "do you want to sell it?", just "how much do you want for it?". Told him that he could have it on the spot for $20,000 and he flinched He then said that he was supposed to go look at an older boat on Craigslist for $5,000 and I suggested that there was no way in the world that I would part with MY boat for that little.

Dad has a ProGator that he keeps in his driveway. Each time my mother has a garage sale, they have to put a sign up on the boat saying it ain't for sale. Originally, they never put a sign up. Then about four years ago some older man climbed up into the boat! Started opening the live-wells and compartments. Dad went ballistic. Immediately ran inside, got a piece of paper, and a marker and put "Not for sale" and slapped that right on the boat while the gentlemen was still on it. Dad did not say a thing. It was a sight to see haha. Over the past years, people still ask and the sign now read "NOT FOR SALE!!!" Exclamation points keep adding up. It means a lot to my dad. That boat was my granddad's and was one of the things my father inherited.
Have also had people ask if my two-man bass hunter is for sale. One guy asked 100 for it. Pretty insulting when I have invested over 1500 into that boat.

The closest I came was in east Texas, a guy walked up to my boat in a parking lot and told me what a nice rig I had (It's a 10 year old Tracker). I felt a sense of pride until he asked me if I had any drugs I could sell him. That's when I realized that my rig might not be so nice, and I apparently look like a drug dealer. THIS!

Most people are shocked that any of the rigs I've owned could float.

My boat stays behind the 6 ft wooden fence so not many even know it's there. However, I have had a few folks stop by and ask how much I would sell my truck for and even had a couple of others leave a business card under my windshield wiper asking the same. Nothing special about the truck really other than it's clean for it's age. no dents, new tires, interior is clean, etc.

Flip side of the story , i really wanted a boat but money was tight. I saw this old boat under a tarp in a back yard in my neighborhood. Thaught i will go and ask if it is for sale the Lady told me i used to be her husband's but he left her a few years back and also left the boat. She ask me what i wil be willing to give her. I told her i have $300 in my pocket she told me done the boat is yours. Got home clean the carbs put fresh gas in it and it started right up. Compression tested 105 over all 4 cylinders. 80 hp merc on a old tri hull. I am still using it 5 years later

I like the approach that everything I have is for sale at the right price! I'll have to remember that line the next time someone ask me, but just about 100% of the time they want you go give it to them. Maybe the better answer is how much are you willing to pay? With the then reply of "dream on brother!"
Just one more cast!

Never, because I never wash it any more and I keep it behind my gate and out of sight. I have been toying with a new one so I kind of wish someone would.

Look for the good in it. When I just bought an 18 foot Triton, I had 3 different "leads" on boats for sale. All three said they never use them and need to sell it. I go and get a bank loan and all three said, that they want to keep the boat because they might use it "one day". I finally found my Triton and asked the dealer why I was jerked around so much and he said that midsized boats that are around 5 years old and in good shape are really rare and in demand. I feel good because it is like new and I know I can sell it within a week for what I paid for it if I ever had to. Try that with a new boat!
But for real, My biggest problem is that EVERYONE I know keeps asking for me to take them for a ride in it. It has been on the water 7 times and 4 of those were to take drunk relatives out for a ride! I had to start making up excuses like "I'm waiting on my special mercury marine engine software computer chip to arrive and that I am just taking it out today to wash it at the car wash."

Never had anybody ask me about my boats over the years, except for one I restored. It had sit under some oak trees uncovered for seven years and was full of rotten leaves and the seats had rotted off the pedestals. It was a stick steer 14 foot Eldocraft with a 25 Merc. I brought it home and cleaned the hull and buffed it out and gave it a good waxing. Changed out the seats, put a water pump in the motor and cleaned the fuel system. Added a new fuel tank and when I was done with it everybody and their brother wanted it. That taught me the value of having a nice rig and keeping it that way. The rest of my rigs have all been stored indoors so no one ever asked me about them. Never had a problem selling one either because my rigs are as good as or better than new when I decide to move them.

Never, Alumacraft Pro 175. it is garage Kept and the exterior is always scratched and hazy. I keep the interior very clean, but only wipe down the outside 1 time per month, gets used 3-4 times per week.
