I see from time to time in the TXPW weekly report that people are catching crappie on Monticello. Anyone here ever crappie fish there, and have any tips?

Thanks,
J

Wouldn't the crappie there and in Welsh have a high level of mercury in them?

Residue from the coal burning at the power plants.

My understanding is that the water leant touch anything. Just used to cool. Nothing wrong with fish from either lake to my knowledge

I've eaten many a fish from Monticello, and no probs. FYI, I was out in that area this evening, and noticed for the first in a long time that all three units had smoke coming out of the stacks.

Here is an article from Feb. 2013.

http://stateimpact.npr.org/texas/2013/02...rcury-warnings/

"Coal-fired power plants are the leading single cause of mercury contamination in fish in the Texas, according to a 2006 TCEQ study, and the majority of contamination has occurred in East Texas, where several lakes are actually cooling reservoirs for power plants."

But it's your choice.
