Cool picture. It just makes me hope that my philosophy about snakes is right. I am always telling my 15 year old to not freak out about the snakes. I keep telling him, "Chances are--if you're calm and quiet, and go about your own business, that water moccasin swimming (30 yards upstream)in the river you are wade fishing--- or that rattlesnake curled up and waiting underneath the tailgate of the explorer where you left your tackle boxes open before wading into the salt flats is more interested in catching its food for the day than messing with you." Gosh I hope I am right. I read today that water moccasins can bite underwater. Of course the only time they have ever bothered me was when someone was making too much racket out on the water.

We have taken some good pics of this very snake before and others at the zoo, but instead of a good picture, we captured a great one this time courtesy of my wife! And it was just "yawning." Although we did make a 2 hour drive to DWA Thursday and I did see the neotropical rattlesnakes make the same look but they were eating mice.
