I'm still using them, and catching fish. Just change out them junky hooks with some quality ones.

With some of the older lures (jitterbug/hulapopper), the hook attaches to the bait without a split ring. Do you just cut off the old hooks and add split rings and new hooks? What do you use to cut them off?

I use a tiny torpedo this time of year. It is quite effective, just figure how to change the hooks out.

Hula popper, jitterbug, devil horse, and the torpedo. Caught a lot of fish on them when I was a kid ad now they never see the light of day.

Thanks, changed out the hooks on my Jitterbugs and Hulas yesterday. With the Hulas, I was able to unscrew the hook holders and replace trebles without a split ring, but on the Jitterbugs I had to use some rings. Will use better quality split rings next time (used Eagle Claw split rings--very soft, not good)
