Have never fished that area, but was just checking it out and talking about it with someone in my unit who has fished that area. He said that he went down a few years back and pretty much fished the ICW and a few cuts and pockets and caught some nice reds. I am looking for a place to fish too considering I have to drive 4 plus hours coming from the Killeen/FT Hood area.

I am heading to Sargent tomorrow. I fish in the East Bay some, but do a lot of my fishing in the cut. It's hit and miss for me. I am by no means an expert down there, but if you catch the current right, and you are in the cut, you should have some success.

Would you by chance be fishing from a boat? I have a 19 ft triumph and not sure about that area.

....will probably be headed down there Wed evening or Thursday morning. Will be fishing the East end and "parts unknown"! White Skeeter with the "Stop Potlickin'" sticker on the windshield. Will probably be there all weekend.

...so good it tastes like it died screaming!

I will be in a little bay boat. Not sure of the model. It's an older boat. My father in law has a place down there on Caney Creek. We go down a few times a year. I will be there with my wife and two boys. It could be just me and my 13 year old in the boat, or possibly him, my wife and my 9 year old as well. We normally go to the beach during the day and fish for a few hours in the afternoons.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated, as all I really know to do is fish the cut.

Anybody know if Sargent allows fireworks on the beach, or knows if there is anywhere to take kids to see a little firework show down there?

If you are right on the Caney Y, you probably rented from Gene and kate Allen. We go there every year and stay at the fishin house. You will be covered in Trout under the lights, you just need to be patient and wait for the schools to come in. Our go to is the tandem shad rig from TTF. The trout and reds feed on the glass minnows and watermelon almost exclusively. No need for live bait. Throw them and the glow cocahoe minnows and you will tear them up.

Watermelon shad and glass minnows are what the trout are feeding on at night. If you "match the hatch" so to speak and use those TTF double shad rigs at night under the lights, you will tear them up

we did pretty good, caught a mess of everything, some sheep head and trout near the swing bridge, and also a little red snapper go figure? on the dock we caught lots of trout we didnt get into the trout until night time and we had to discover to slowly drag our lines through the light in a certain spot and my buddy hit one every time, we also gots some croaker , and some hard heads, another buddy caught some huge gaftops from kayaking on the surf, and to top it off we used the Crab rigs they supplied and caught a mess of crabs and had a boil and a fish fry. all in all it was a good weekend and could have been better if the rain and wind would have let up just a bit, but in September i am going down to Galveston for some Sharl fishing and Flounder gigging. Thanks for the help Bull Tide and everyone else.
