is a dead cottonmouth. This one was just too close to our porch for us to leave alone.

I seldom leave them alone because they seldom leave me alone. Too many close encounters of the poisonous kind. If they will stay out of sight, out of reach, AND out of the yard/barn...they have an even chance...otherwise they have NO second chance.

I am surprised the tree huggers/snake experts are not throwing stones at you for killing it. It looks like a harmless water snake to me. FYI: All snakes I see die. I killed a rat snake the other day. SOB hissed at me when I touched his tail to say hello.

The white inside of it's mouth and small but deadly fangs were also a giveaway!

If someone isn't familiar with handling venomous snakes, the animal is in their yard and can they kill it without injuring them self, it's likely not a bad idea.

One of the few pictures I've seen on here that was labeled a cottonmouth and actually turned out to be a cottonmouth and not a banded water snake. I leave snakes alone in the wild, but poisonous ones in my yard are killed. I have two little kids and would hate for them to get bitten.
