Just getting into fly fishing, and was wondering whats y'all's favorite little accessories were? I've got the major components now, as well as forceps, clippers, flotant, dry shake stuff, and they guy at the fly shop in NM hooked me up with some thingamabobbers. Anything else you guys recommend that you like. Definitely looking for a better case for it all. Don't really like the one that came with it all.

Any accessories that catch more fisherman than fish that I should steer clear of?

My three favorite fishing accessories are my sage typhoon waist pack (so great to have a waterproof pack to haul around a phone or gps), my straw hat, and my coleman flask full of bourbon. Always make sure and have all three on me, unless the wind is gale force, then the hat gets left at home.

I say go fishing and see what shakes out. It'll all start becoming obvious the more you fish. At least that's my opinion.

Most of them fit this discription...

Sounds like you already have enough to get you started.

Here are the items that seem to go with me on most trips:

- A Lanyard containing:
-- Hemostats (attached so I don't lose them again)
-- A set of Clippers
-- A Ty-Rite Fish Hook Holder (not necessary, but useful)
-- A couple of spools of tippet
-- Nothing else is usually attached to it

- Fanny Pack (not as hot as a vest and lighter)
- Slotted-foam style fly boxes
- Amber color polarized sun glasses
- A nail knot tool (I like the Tie-Fast Knot Tying Tool style)
- A Buff to protect my neck from the sun
- A Net is handy when wading (I've been using a Measure Net style)
- Plus some general stuff; flies, spare leader, split shot, wide brim hat, sun screen, bug spray, and water.
- A Wading Staff and Studded Boots are also on my "favorites" list when wading

Keep it as simple as possible, you'll have just as much fun.

Small pair of sturdy plier for crimping barbs down hemos just won't do it.

I love my Abel nippers. At $50 they're not a necessity by any stretch of the imagination, but sure are handy.

Retractors. I like the ZIP variety that has a carabiner style clasp vs a pin. Definitely personal preference. I feel lost if my nippers are not attached.
Keep the fly line clean. Something lint free or those foam pads work well.

Orvis Power Jaws forceps.
A double zinger to hold the forceps and nippers.

I love my Fishpond vest with the built in backpack and water reservoir. It's comfortable and I can stay out all day and hike far since it lets me carry plenty of water and food.

At my advanced age-Hat Eyes. Particularly when trout or pan-fishing with small flies and light leaders.

This is by far my favorite little 'doo dad' for fly fishing. Curved tip is the best for getting flies out of little bluegill mouths.

Works well enough to crimp barbs, has a serrated scissor portion that will cut thick leaders, braid or backing.

Rex: I have been meaning to get a buff for a couple of years now. The mention makes me think of a line from an old David Allen Coe song where he sings, "My long hair still can't cover up my red neck."

Have fun with this stuff.
