Most of us getting up into our 50's all have good old boys from our past that shared their knowledge with us. In the video he said something I've applied for years. It was first taught to me 20+ years ago at Tawakoni by several of my wife's relatives that had summer places there. Whenever the fish were schooling we always followed "behind" the school. If you can imagine what we are trying to mimic with our slabs it's a wounded shad sinking or drifting down to the bottom. The bigger fish are always at the bottom. Just like he said they are after the easy meal- the wounded shad that the sandies are pounding on up above. First time I've ever heard it spoken in a Forum like this. Spot on. I never chase the schooling fish- I follow them. Oh and here is another tip. Rig a line with a cut shad below the schooling fish and catch some nice catfish also. Have done that for years at Tawakoni. Happy Fishing.

I wish I had the time and resource to go chase monster linesiders,... I'd enjoy the idea of chasing after the "one fish", the zen like focus on that one fish where you can learn everything you need to know about the fish there is... and eventually "set an appointment" with that fish at a very specific time and place... In fact, I fish in North Texas area lakes, I don't have a boat, yet... so the only way I can catch fish is to go meet them at the "appointed" time and places very close to shore... wink

The pursuit (where are the fish), rigs design and setup, scouting, the awesome feeling of casting your rigs 100+ yards out, the total focus on the fish and the elements, the outdoors... the total exhaustion at the end of your fishing day,... the cooler full of fish to bring home... Yeah, I'm going to miss bank fishing!

You'd be wise to listen to what Crazy Al has to say. I've fished with him in Montauk and he knows his $h!t. He's a legend just like Jack Yee, Paul Melnyk and a few others when it comes to striped bass.

Alberto, Im a New England transplant to TX. I've been fishing RI and MA waters for years and grew up at Race Point in the 70s. I have a few 30s and 40s under my belt but never broke 50. My Dad had a few in the 50s. I primarily fished from Charlestown Bway up to the Narrow River and also the Canal. Since moving to TX I continue to chase stripers and although they're smaller here, they're still a lot of fun and a blast to catch. I make a few trips up North each year to surfcast or take a charter. Glad to see you here, nice folks in TX and they've been helpful to me making the tranisiton to freshwater

As good as the striper fishing is here in Texas and Arkansas, fishing from a rock or the beach on a moonless night in the saltwater simply can't be matched. But I'll take what I can get until October or November when I can go back east!
