Arrived at Port A and checked into the hotel (Tropical Island) and settled in getting the ribbon fish and ice and boat ready so we could get after it Thursday morning....Thursday morning we ran to the usual starting spot in 2 to 3 foot swells, Stand Pipe well. Nothing home so we headed down the coast hitting all the rigs. At the third rig I chunked a big 8" chartruese sassy shad on the shady side of the leg and let it sink for about a eight count and started reeling and wham the fight was on. I knew it was big because my Penn 750 spinning reel was a screaming and my rod started bending at the handle. Could not turn the fish and you know the rest of the story. CUT OFF on the leg! My brother Tommy got out his Sabiki reel and we caught some bait. Drifted ribbons and I call them yellow tails. Picked up one nice king on the yellow tail that Tommy caught for bait. We ended up at the Cluster of wells out from the Myan Princess hotel. Tied up and finished the day catching Lane snapper ....Friday Tommy decided to head to the ships that are anchored. There are about 15 probably and we started in the middled drifting ribbons working our way out. We finally hit a few kings on the third ship then nothing. We decided to go to the rig past the ships. I think its 120 degress out of the jetty. The kings were home. The water changed to a pretty blue about a mile before we reached the rig. Ran out of ribbon fish. Had a great time...Saturday got up and headed to Port A outfitters for bait. No ribbons! Went to DSH no ribbons! hit all the bait stores and they said no ribbons on the island!!!! So I hopped the ferry and hit the bait houses between PA and Aransas pass. The third bait house had them I got 4 dozen. Now tht we had bait we headed back to the oil well. We decided to make a little detour and headed to the farthest ship that was anchored. We started the first drift on the shady side and we get one while letting the line out. We finish the drift catching two. Next drift we get one. We caught kings on the six drifts in a row. We had our limit of 8 and it was catch and release from then on! Final count I think was around 18. The water Saturday was like glass. We were drifting after another fish and my sister-in-law Connie says whats that? looked over on her side of the boat and about 30 yards out was a BIG shark just cruising along with his dorsal fin and tip of his tail out of the water just like the movies!! I'm guessing 8-9 foot from dorsal to tip of tail. It was BIG!! We ended up riding back and watching an offhore floating platform go between the jetties! That thing was a giant! Came home Sunday, great to see my wife I missed her alot. Will return to work Monday but my mind will still be in Port Aransas!!!

Sweet...hoping to catch some in two weeks. Cool you got into lane snapper. I can only catch reds on those nearshore rigs.
