Caught a 24" bucketmouth today. WOOHOO!!!
Question is: Are the weight by length estimates accurate?
If so i have myself a new PB.
Old PB is 8# even.

TPWD site says 24" lmb is estimated at 8.52#.

You cant go by length alone anymore,, For example we had a Tournament awhile back and on that Lake the slot is 18 to 22, There was 3 Overs turned in and all were 22 1/2 Mine was 5.68 next was 6.42 and Big fish went to a 7.31 I have also caught overs there that were Poor as a Snake and stuffed with plastic worms and weight less then 4 lbs.. So I say you really cant go by any type of weight by length estimates.

You need a girth measurement for it to be anywhere near accurate. I caught a 25 incher last month and it went 6lb 12oz. My PB was a little under 9lbs and that fish was only 22 inches.

The best thing to do, if you really are concerned about the weight, (and who isnt) is ALWAYS carry a scale.

Well since i didnt have a scale, i'll just say i tied my PB. Haha.
I went and bought a rapala digital scale right after go off the water.

My Pb was 24" even. It was 8 pounds but could not get EXACT weight as it was spring scale and not digital. Had a girth of 20" though and I have had some people tell me in that case it would have been closer to 9, but I would rather underestimate than over. Weight also depends on what the bass has in its stomach. Some types of forage weigh much more than others. Without a scale, guessing a weight can be very difficult.

Are the weight by length estimates accurate? no, girth would help slightly. 24" could be 7 pounder or 13 pounder. Most likely 8-9 pounds.
