Is the saying fish bite the least with wind out of the east true in your experience?

Never noticed this. Looking at my log (go ahead, bring on the fishing diary comments haha) there are a few trips where I caught some good quantities of fish when there was an easterly wind. We don't have much wind out of the east though, that or its a coincidence I don't fish much with eastern winds.

Jimmy houston says "wind out of the east, fish bite the least, wind out of the west, fish bite the best, wind out of the south, blows bait into the fishes mouth, wind out of the north, fisherman don't go forth." But any wind is good as long as its not to much to fish.

I think that if you look at the weather patterns, you will see that we don't usually have an Easterly wind unless a big Low Pressure system is sitting close by. That means rain, low clouds and crappy weather. That said, I have done extreemly well on an approching Low Pressure area, but once is sets-in, the fish seem to shut down. As in "fishing when to heck after the cold front rolled through".

Well, I generally do better with west and south winds than with north and east, but I think that has to do with the conditions that normally come with those winds. Still have had productive days on north and east winds, but not as many.

Any wind is ok by me hopefully less than 20 mph.

"Winds from the east fishing is the least, winds from the west fishing is the best"
That is a saying my uncle use to say a lot but I think it is just another excuse for not catching fish that day. Just like most of say the front, the heat or rain was what the problem was for that day...

it has to do with fronts and how they normally approach us. this part of the country our weather comes from the sw or nw the majority of the time, so when we get a southerly wind a low is normally coming, same with west (front is just a little further north so you catch the "bottom" wind).
north and east winds are mostly winter time and tend to be more severe along with the shifts in barometric pressure. this is why fish seem to bite less.
I have caught fish with winds from all directions but southerly and westerly do seem to be better, well as long as they are not blowin and goin anyway.

I totally agree with hop on this one...

I think everyone knows to fish ahead of a front....or at least I have always seen prefront conditions fare well for me...

It's been about two weeks ago but I fished 4 days in a row prior to a pretty good low coming in...limited the two days before the front and caught 9 before noon on the day it arrived about noon....then they shut off....the day after the front was a 12 hour hard fishing day and I got 14...
