Need some ideas on how to best (easiest way) to tie up to the larger bridge pillars. Not a spring chicken any more so standing on the edge of a rocking boat trying to reach around the pillar is not the easiest. Any ideas would be appreciated

Hula Hoop. Cut it and use a fish tape to run a cord through it.

Make a monkey fist with a piece of wood in it so it floats. Throw it around and grab it with paddle or net.

keeps the fish on your hook better. Ha, LOL.
Seriously, it is a coiled length of stiff wire inside a circular housing. It is mostly used by electricians to "fish" it through pvc or conduit to grab a wire or cable and pull it through.

You can also tie up a half 2 liter bottle to a rope and toss it around the column.

I use a tennis ball stuffed into a white sock, then I tie a rope to the end of the white sock and swing it high in to the air around the pier and if it doesn't land back in the boat,I use the tip of a rod to lift it back in the boat,as the tennis ball will float, when not in use it is easily stored.

Any kind of float tied to the end of the rope will work. Throw it next to and past the pillar and use one of your fishing rods rigged with a weight and cast from the opposite side of the pillar over the rope and snag it and pull it around the pillar.
Just one more cast!

For years I used a floating poly rope. Toss one end out, drive around the pylon with the T-M and pick it up with a dock hook.

I just use a floating rope and sling it around. Hula hoop helps to keep the rope from chafing and is good if you switch pillars and lot. I also carry a piece of carpet to put between the boat and the pillar if needed.
