I had a few request for a post on installing an anchor trolley on the K 12. I had already planned to install two this week so what better time then now! You will need well nuts for this installation.(4-8/32 and 1-10/32)

Here are the components of my trolley system. Included are the well nuts, ss screws, nylon ring, two cheek block pulleys and two pieces of bungee with clips.

These are the padeyes and rivets I will use to secure the top line of the trolley to the boat. This keeps it to the side of the boat and not in the boat where it can tangle on lord knows what!

A close up of the well nuts to clear up any confusion on what well nuts are. Now its time to drill some holes in this new piece of plastic!

To be continued after I scarf down some grub.....

Joe is that a trolley kit? I like the components.

It is a kit Shaun. Its an old one that I got from ACK when I bought my Manta ray. Its ok but the Native kits that Rick sales at APT have the actual Harken Blocks in them. They are better pulleys then what these are.

Now for that first hole....

...and the hard part is done! BE SURE TO USE THE RIGHT SIZE BIT FOR WELL NUTS!!SUPER IMPORTANT!! The 8/32s that I used required a 5/16 bit.

The location of the front pulley is about 12" from the nose of the boat and above the seem. This is the location I have used on all of my boats.

This is the location of the rear pulley. Its about 12" from the rear of the boat.

Now to run the line through the pulleys and attach the ring with bungees on each end.

Tie a loop not in one end of the line and attach one of the bungees to the loop. Pull the line tight enough so that the bungees are just starting to stretch and secure it to the other bungee. Make sense?

I use padeyes to attach the top line of the trolley to the side of the boat. This keeps the line nice and neat to the side of the boat.
All that's remaining to do is to install the control knob. Its simply a knob that you can wrap the line around to keep it from moving. I used a 10/32 well nut for this wich required a 3/8 bit. I installed it inline with the top line and within my reach in a seated position in the boat.

That's it,my anchor trolley on the new boat! Its an easy project for anyone. Just be sure to use the correct tool for the job and take your time!

Nice job on the layout Joe. whats the reason for the well nuts, and not rivets. Rivets to short?

No problem Squirrelman! Let me know if I can be of any help during your install.
Cudadude, I just have had better luck with well nuts holding tight. Rivets, especially in plastic, will eventually become loose after putting lots of constant pressure on them like these pulleys will have on them while anchored. Im not saying they wouldn't work, just not my preference with my personal experience. Some guys swear off well nuts but I have never had one fail when the correct size bit was used.

I'm going to try just putting an O-ring on a piece of bungee cord and attaching the ends to the two forward most padeyes. My anchor system goes to the O-ring, and a tether goes to the anchor rope above the float which in turn attaches to a cleat at my seat. Will do the same at the stern - this one to be used primarily with my drift sock with the dump rope attached to the cleat.

The nice thing about the KC-12 is the easy access to the bow and stern for hookups, especially with a sliding swivel seat!

Now that is a seat!! How do you keep from rolling over sitting that high in the yak?

You would really have to work at it to roll a KC. But that high seat does catch a lot of wind when you're trying to cross a lake. Waiting for KC to come up with a good compromise.....
