HasBen, how bout that $17 margarita??? I nearly hit the floor when the bartender looked at my ten dollar bill and said he'd need seven more rolfmao

Yes, the food is expensive, but it is a guilty pleasure a couple times a year. The fajitas are worth it!

A good one in McKinney is Jalapeno's on 380 across from the old hospital which is being razed. East of 75 past Bill Smith's Cafe. It is behind Sicily's (also good). Nothing fancy - just good food and reasonable and the go to place for locals.

The Mendez Bakery here in Gainesville. I can't understand what is being talked about that day and you never see any stray cats and dogs around there, but the food is great. Almost any time your meal is served on foil and styrofoam it is good.

Fresco's in Old Town Burleson. Steak Fahita meat is the most tender I have had and Great flavor to boot. Service staff is excellent and prices reasonable.

Dos Molinas in Fort Worth...just a few blocks West of Cattleman's. A little hole in the wall. Even the Bass Brothers eat there.

Things never go according to plan, so plan accordingly.

Fresco's is usually a safe bet for good food.

I tried El Jalisco in Hillsboro the other day. DO NOT GO THERE...unless you need to use the bathroom. Seriously, the restroom was the cleanest I've ever seen in a restaurant bar none. The food was mediocre at best. The salsa was okay, but bland. It actually might have been good if there was any flavor whatsoever. It was a bit chunky which I like, but no taste. The chips tasted old and stale. The tea tasted a few days old and was just not good. The chile relleno was supposed to be filled with beef. Instead, I got a chile relleno stuffed with cheese placed on a very small amount of beef...not what I ordered. The salad is just strands of lettuce with some tomatoes and a few very thin slices of avocado. Again, not what I expected. The rice was the best of the food I ate...and it was just okay at best. The service was slow and the waiter was inattentive. I won't be back.

In McKinney, try Jalapeno's on 380 behind Sicily's east of SAMS. It is not the same as Jalapeno Tree. A local place that has good food and a steady business. Nothing fancy but always good and cheap. Sicily's is a great Italian place, too. BYOB and get out of either place at $20 for two.

I am convinced that you can't get good Tex Mex north of 1604 in San Antonio.
